More information about DryGuardians

Introducing the Dry Guardians Bedwetting system by Swedish company Pjama. The founders of this company spent years creating the perfect product to help families manage bedwetting and they have now developed a new, modern solution for the treatment of bedwetting.

Headed up by Dr Tryggve Nevéus, a professor of paediatrics and a senior consultant at Uppsala University Children's Hospital Sweden, Pjama has worked extensively with hospitals and families, trialling and developing the DryGuardians treatment system. It is now used in over 30 hospitals across Sweden and by healthcare providers across Europe and Australia.

What is different about the DryGuardians system?

The DryGuardians App, available for Android and iPhone devices, is at the heart of this complete bedwetting treatment system. It is a suitable treatment for children aged 5 and above.

Used in combination with Pjama’s alarm units and clothing, the DryGuardians App enables you to track your child’s progress and receive motivational notifications and advice in response to the pattern of your child’s wetting.

Research by Pjama has shown that bedwetting alarm treatments are more effective when children and their families are motivated to keep using the alarm regularly. The DryGuardians app enables you to easily record wetting incidents and dry nights, helping you to track your child’s progress and understand more about how you can support them on their journey to dry nights.

At its simplest, the DryGuardians App can be used in combination with a standalone alarm sensor, that is placed in your child’s underwear. When the sensor is activated by wetting, a bluetooth signal will trigger an alarm on your phone to wake you and your child. An additional speaker unit is available to purchase if you would like the alarm to sound in both bedrooms.

Alternatively, you can choose a clip-on alarm sensor that attaches to the waistband of items from the Pjama clothing range. The clothes, including trousers, shorts, boxers and briefs are made from an innovative fabric containing sensor threads, which transmit a signal to the alarm sensor as soon as wetting is detected. This provides a more convenient and comfortable way for your child to wear the sensor, and ensures the alarm is triggered as soon as the wetting happens.

As an added bonus, the trousers and shorts, are waterproof and will protect your child’s bedding and mattress.

How to use the DryGuardians system

  • Download the DryGuardians App from Google Play or the App Store.
  • Set up an account registering details including the age of your child and how often they wet the bed
  • Place a Pjama bedwetting sensor in your child’s own underwear or attach a sensor to the Pjama trousers, shorts, boxers or briefs.
  • Ensure your child goes to the toilet before bedtime to empty their bladder and make sure their last drink is about an hour before bedtime.
  • Keep your phone or Pjama speaker unit within 10 metres of the Pjama Sensor.
  • When the alarm goes off, if your child does not wake up by themselves, wake them and take them to the bathroom to finish their wee in the toilet. It is important that your child wakes up.
  • Wipe the sensor clean and dry, and place back in dry underwear or re-attach to a clean pair of the Pjama trousers, shorts, boxers or briefs.
  • The DryGuardians app automatically records the time of any wetting incidents, and you can also enter times and dry nights manually. You will receive text notifications and videos with tips and advice, based on the information you input.
  • Wash items of Pjama clothing inside out and line-dry (they can take up to 48 hours to line-dry) or tumble for use the following night.
  • Find out after a month if the treatment is likely to work for your child. You may find your child’s bedwetting is improved or even stops within the first 2-3 weeks of using the alarm. It is important to continue using the treatment until your child has had 14 consecutive dry nights, before you stop using the alarm.

What are the benefits of the Dry Guardians system?

  • Flexibility – you can choose which alarm sensors and clothing to use with the app, with combinations to suit different budgets and the needs of your child.
  • Custom features - it is common for bedwetting to be linked to deep sleep. Research shows that children are more easily awakened by their parents’ voices. With the DryGuardians App, you have the option to record your own message on your phone and use it as an alarm.
  • Convenience – the waterproof shorts and trousers protect your child’s bedding and mattress and enables them to return to sleep promptly after each wetting and a quick clothing change.
  • Comfort – the alarm sensors that tuck into your child’s underwear or attach onto the Pjama clothing are lightweight and wireless, with no fiddly or uncomfortable clips.
  • Peace of mind – the Dry Guardians app delivers advice and tips based on years of research from the experts at Pjama.
